Get Out and Learn by Doing (GOLD) is the name of academic service learning courses offered by WVU departments and units. Whether through the English department, School of Pharmacy, or WVU’s many Residence Halls, the CCE works with academic programs to enhance learning opportunities for our students. With the mutual benefit of learning and assisting the community, GOLD Program courses meet learning objectives that are academic, psychomotor, and affective in order to provide the most hands-on approach to teaching and learning.

SRVL: WVU service learning courses offered through the CCE. These courses are planned, taught, graded, and assessed by the program coordinator of the Center. Course credits range from 1-6 hours, depending on the academic rigor and the depth of the project design.

MDS: Multidisciplinary Studies capstone students are placed through the CCE for their service learning experience. The CCE provides one-on-one consultation to each student in order to provide the best possible match for the graduating student.

Adventure WV: Students in this alternative orientation program are placed with community partners to provide meaningful service while fulfilling the requirements of the Adventure WV program. Most of the service opportunities involve environmental placements focusing on outdoor activities.

WMST: Women’s Studies capstone students are placed through the CCE for their service learning experience. The CCE connects community partners to the classroom in order to provide a presentation/selection style format for the students.

SOWK: Social Work students can be placed through the CCE with community partners in order to fulfill course requirements regarding teamwork, community needs, and social work theory.

PHAR: Pharmacy Practicum courses are jointly planned and taught by School of Pharmacy faculty and the CCE. This three-semester program offers pharmacy students the opportunity to attend a Service Learning Fair during class release time, as well as one-on-one interviews with participating community partners.

PUBA: PUBA graduate student placements are coordinated through the CCE with non-profit community agencies to do applied research. The community is polled to determine the need of this research and the most significant needs are addressed through this service learning course.
