Currently,
MPAACT WV is 141 members strong, made up of 7 student cohorts with 129 students in Phase II and 12 students in Phase I. Phase I of
MPAACT WV at the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy prepares students to receive their
GED, the high school equivalency, while simultaneously preparing for college. Students in this phase take an
ACT and college preparation class, apply to at least 3 colleges, complete two college courses, and attend a tour of Potomac State College of
WVU. During Phase II, students embark on employment, higher education, military, and other great opportunities.
MPAACT WV follows and provides college entrance assistance for these students for 4 years after graduation from the
MCA. Presently, 6 classes of Phase I graduates are being tracked.
MPAACT WV is proud to announce that two more students have qualified for the Promise Scholarship, bringing the total to 11 MPAACT WV participants.
On June 14, 2007, MPAACT WV will award Phase I completion certificates and MPAACT WV pins to 12 students in an awards ceremony at the MCA. These students will have successfully completed their college preparation and will be graduating from the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy with 6 college credits on June 15, 2007. They will then join the college attending Phase II students who are working to complete their higher education.
